Samosa recipe

Updated: May 29, 2020

Hey everyone! thanks a lot for the love you gave me on my previous post. Today I'm going to teach you how to make samosas. To be honest, I never really thought I'd ever do this. Why? you may ask? well my first attempt was overwhelming and tiring and when I was done they did not look like samosas L.O.L but here I am today feeling like the samosa top chef haha. Okay lets just get straight to the recipe.

Ingredients:

For the pockets you will need

2 cups flour

1 tsp salt

1/2 cup warm water

1 tbs oil

For the filling you will need:

Ingredients

Half kg of minced beef

2 tbs soy sauce

2 cups of chopped spring onions

1 large red onion

1 teaspoon cumin

1 pinch of dried thyme

3 cloves garlic (crushed)

1/2 teaspoon of ginger (crushed)

1 teaspoon royco

1/4 cup of water

Salt and black pepper to taste

Chilli (optional)

Method for the pockets:

For this I will show you how to make the pockets step by step in order for you to fully understand and also just to make your life easier 😁

Step 1: Use 1 cup of flour and mix with the salt and oil then add water and knead adding the extra flour little by little until the dough is fully kneaded.

Step 2: Divide your dough into balls.

Step 3: Roll your balls into small circles that are about 3 inches in size then apply a bit of oil on one then ensure you have fully covered the top. Don't put oil on all the discs, apply only on half of them.

Step 4: Stack the discs of the dough without oil on top of the oiled ones. They should be a stack of two discs.

Step 5: Now roll the stacked disks into one large disk, almost like the size of chapatis. Please ensure that the disks do not overlap each other because if they do you will not be able to separate them from each other later on.

Step 6: Once that is done put them on a chapati pan and let them cook for about a minute on each side.

Once that's done they should look like this👇

Step 7: Cut the cooked sheet into quarters and peel them to separate the discs you had stacked earlier on.

Do the same for all of them and they should look like this:

Step 8: Okay now you need to fold them into pockets. So place your triangle and place it flat. I have labelled them 1,2 and 3 so you can easily understand which sides to fold.

Step 9: Take side 1 and bring it down to almost touch side 3. Like this👇

Step 10: Mix a thick paste with a little bit of water and the remaining flour then apply it on side 2 around the curve. This will seal your samosa.

Your pocket should now look like this:

And you are officially done with making the pockets you should be proud of yourself 😁😁

Method for the filling:

Now you are done with the hardest part, from here everything is easy peasy. I like to marinate my meat for a few minutes.

Add the soy sauce and half of the minced garlic and ginger to the minced meat and let it sit for just a few minutes.

In a hot pan fry your red onions until they're soft and fragrant. Then add the rest of your garlic and ginger and cook for about 2 minutes.

Add your spring onions and all the spices and salt and thoroughly mix.

Add the minced meat and the water and mix. At this point break up the minced meat if they are clumped up together then turn down the heat and let it cook.

Once the meat is ready stuff it into the samosa pockets you had prepared earlier then seal them with the paste.

Fry your samosas and they are now ready. Enjoy your samosas and I hope this recipe was easy for you to follow. Tag me on Instagram and let me see how they turned out for you. Also, if you do not get it right once keep trying, practice makes perfect. Until next time❤
